{"id":1184,"date":"2016-02-09T23:32:55","date_gmt":"2016-02-09T22:32:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.udruzenjekurs.org\/?p=1184"},"modified":"2018-10-21T20:24:18","modified_gmt":"2018-10-21T19:24:18","slug":"tvornice-radnicima","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.udruzenjekurs.org\/en\/radovi\/tvornice-radnicima\/","title":{"rendered":"FACTORIES TO THE WORKERS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-center\" src=\"http:\/\/www.udruzenjekurs.org\/wp-content\/images\/tvornice-radnicima\/tvornice-radnicima-itas-ivanec-2015-foto-kurs-1920px.jpg\" alt=\"tvornice-radnicima-itas-ivanec-2015-foto-kurs-1920px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blok.hr\/?lang=en\">BLOK<\/a> curators\u2019 collective from Zagreb, invited KURS to take part in <a href=\"http:\/\/urbanfestival.blok.hr\/13\/\">Urban Festival 13<\/a>.<br \/>\nWithin the festival, KURS painted the mural in the factory <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itas.hr\/\">ITAS-Prvomajska<\/a><\/p>\n<p>By painting a mural at ITAS Prvomajska factory in Ivanec, we primarily wanted to support the workers\u2019 organization and struggle, which resists the logic of the market and the interests of gross capital. The aim has been to use our labour in order to join the workers\u2019 struggle and to contribute to its development and empowerment. The intervention contradicts the today\u2019s view of mural painting as a tool of aestheticization and decoration; it does not romanticize the struggle of ITAS\u2019 workers, but becomes its integral part. The decision on positioning the mural within the factory resulted from our wish to address the workers by offering them something that places the workers\u2019 collective and the workers\u2019 self-management into the fore.<\/p>\n<p>It is supposed to send a clear message to all the visitors to the factory: \u201cITAS is its workers.\u201d In order to describe how we see our position as artists, we will paraphrase Walter Benjamin: our task is to fight rather than to decorate; it is to become actively involved rather than to be mere observers. In a broader sense, the mural in ITAS\u2019 factory represents the inevitability of struggle in developing the progressive models of management through workers\u2019 collectives.
